Why LCBB?
A big part of my heart belongs to the girls that have fallen victim to the sex trafficking industry. Since I saw a documentary about the sex trade after my sophomore year of high school, this pressing feeling has been on my heart. I didn’t know what to do with it though. I put the feeling aside, because at that point I was still in high school and I had no idea what the future held.
That passion kept nudging me from time to time, forcing me to remember all of the faces of the girls I had seen in that documentary. At some points in my life, I’d either forgotten about them, or put them on the back burner. Something I never want to do again is forget what I’ve seen, because if I forget what I’ve seen then I’ve forgotten what drives me. If I’ve forgotten what drives me, then I have no direction. A life with no direction is stagnant.
Have you ever seen or smelled a pool of stagnant water? It’s disgusting. It smells of rot and death. That’s not something that I want to happen in my life, so I keep going. Constant motion is the way to live: all things new, all things fresh.
Mitch Kenney is a red haired runner who loves sports. He is almost completely opposite of me. I used to hate doing any physical exercise and was admittedly a little bit scared because of my bad Bicuspid Aortic Valve. One night, I was in an RA’s room with Mitch and his roommate. We were sitting there talking about random crap and I, per usual, sat there and didn’t really talk much. All of the sudden the topic of sex trafficking came up. Mitch piped up and said that he’s involved with a non-profit organization called “Love Can’t Be Baht.” I paused for a second and thought, “I’ve heard of that”. I become enamored that an 18 year old could be such a huge part of something. I asked Mitch for a Mountain Dew Throwback, and our friendship started. To this day, I am still encouraged daily and inspired by the person Mitch is.
Mitch later explained to me what LCBB does and I fell in love again. I fell back in love with the girls in the Rapha House, the girls who have been and are currently being trafficked, and an idea. The idea that a t-shirt can change the world and that music triumphs over money. I asked how I could get involved, and I promptly bought a shirt. After buying the shirt, I felt the pull to get more involved. God put this passion in my life. I need to follow it. I ask about getting more involved and through a series of very specific events that only God could put together, I become a part of the LCBB Core Staff. I love it.
This passion remains in me.
I will stand for those who cannot stand for themselves. I will love the way Christ loves. Loving people means doing everything for the betterment of that person. This social injustice is real to me. I see the hurt and pain it causes. I want the world to know and to do something about it.
The Love Can’t Be Baht team is made up of people who desperately desire a united, authentic, creative, passionate, and relentless pursuit of Christ. That means loving people without boundaries.
We exist to raise awareness about this horrible epidemic that is happening all over the world.
None of LCBB team has ever been put in cages, forced drugs, or forced to have sex. We have only ever been slaves to our own fear. God has blessed us with freedom so that we may free others.
Love endures all things, and love never fails.
